January 13, 2007 - New Rochelle, NY
The Lovely Ladies of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc.’s Alpha Alpha Chapter (New Rochelle, NY) teamed up with SIA’s NY/NJ Metropolitan Alumnae to raise money for one of Sigma Iota Alpha’s national philanthropies, Camp Heartland.
The fundraiser was held at the Putting Edge in New Rochelle, NY. For a $20 entrance fee, attendees were able to enjoy 18 holes of glow in the dark mini-golf and dinner with all of the proceeds benefiting Camp Heartland. Various raffles were held throughout the evening to add to the fun. The event was very successful and all those in attendance had a great time.
Yamilette “Alcina” Abreu, the President of Alpha Alpha chapter, remarked,” It was a good turn-out. All profits are going to camp heartland and hopefully this event will be repeated annually.” It was great to see undergraduates, alumnae, and their friends, families, and supporters come together to help raise money for this great cause. Camp Heartland is dedicated to enhancing the lives of children infected & affected by HIV/AIDS.
Tiara “Ndigayenza” Simmons was the project spearhead on behalf of the alumnae. She noted, “[this event] was wonderful! We were able to get everyone involved. To see people come from all over to help make the Mini Golf night a success was great. Even regular visitors to New Roc City participated.”
