de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc, (SIA) a Hispanic philanthropic
sorority, has had one of its founding mother nominated
to the "100 Most Important Hispanics in Technology
and Business" list for 2006 by Hispanic Engineer
& Information Technology magazine. The honoree
-- Dora Maria Abreu, Founder 1990, was selected for
her outstanding performance in the field of technology
and the community at large. This is the first selection
for Abreu for this magazine, but the third of distinctions
that accompany: Top Latinas List 2005 June/August
2005, and El Diaro / La Prensa One of the 50 Outstanding
Latinas of the Year 2004 as well as getting highlighted
in Hispanic Network Magazine June 2005 and SHAPE Magazine
- Local Hero Article March 2004.
"We are happy to see Ms. Abreu be recognized
for her achievements," said Suheil Pimentel,
Vice President of Marketing for SIA,. "in a field
typically dominated by men she has proven to be an
example for not only Hispanic women but all young
women striving to succeed in the technology field."
Abreu, currently a Technology Analyst for Goldman
Sachs, has not only served as a example among the
technology community but is a role model for the over
500 members of the SIA organization. As one of the
organization founders, she also holds a seat on the
Board of Directors for the sorority's Solidaridad
Inspiracion Amistad Community Foundation, committed
to scholarship, service and professional development
within Latino communities.
Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology chooses
honorees based on their achievements in the field
of technology, their leadership in the organizations
they represent and their community service. This list
includes many of the nation's highest achieving Hispanic
executives, managers and researchers in industry,
government and academia.
