EXECUTIVE BOARD OF LATINA SORORITY
HERMANDAD DE SIGMA IOTA ALPHA INC. COMMENCES 2006-2007

The newly elected National Board of Hermandad de Sigma
Iota Alpha, Inc. commences it's term today to run
through April 30, 2007. The board consists of:
President: Ivone De Jesus, Treasurer: Jennifer Y.
Saavedra-Martinez, Vice President of Marketing: Suheil
Pimentel, Vice President of Alumnae Affairs: Connie
Morales, Vice President of Undergraduate Affairs:
Rosa A. Ramos and Vice President of Correspondence:
Desiree L. Sanchez.
Ms. Pimentel and Ms. Morales remain in the positions
they were elected to last year, while Ms. De Jesus
vacated her position as dual Vice President of Undergraduate
and Community Affairs. "We are very excited for
the opportunity to serve our hermanas in this capacity,"
says Ms. De Jesus of her board, "we hope to make
many contributions during this term within the organization
and beyond."
Ms. Ramos and Ms. Saavedra-Martinez will be joining
the board to complete the two year terms of those
positions vacated, but are not strangers to the national
platform. Ms. Ramos served two previous terms on the
board, as National Secretary and National Vice President,
from 2001-2005. Ms. Saavedra-Martinez served previously
on the Alumnae Board of Directors. This will be Sanchez's
first time serving in a national position for the
organization.
The National President and National Treasurer positions
were vacated by Jessica A. Mayorga de Rivera and Michelle
Sazo who were only going to complete one year of the
two year term positions before moving on to concentrate
on SIA's newly created Solidaridad Inspiración
Amistad Community Foundation, Inc. Ms. De Rivera serves
as the Chief Executive Officer and Ms. Sazo serves
as the Chief Financial Officer of the Foundation.
Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. (SIA) was founded
on September 29, 1990 by a diverse group of women
with the goal of creating an organization that would
help their communities, unite women, and uphold a
set of distinct goals. Its dedication to scholarship,
service and professional development within the Latino
community has grown beyond New York, with chapters
in several states including: New Jersey, Massachusetts,
Pennsylvania, California, Texas, Illinois, Maryland
and Virginia.
SIA is more than a sorority; we are a family and network
of professional, strong and dedicated women leaders.
We are also a 501(c)7 tax-exempt organization and
we work in conjunction with the Solidaridad Inspiración
Amistad Community Foundation, Inc.- a 501(c)3 Community
Foundation committed to scholarship, service and professional
development within Latino communities nationally.
