September 15, 2006-Chicago, Illinois- Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. will celebrate its 16th annual Founders banquet at the Crowne Plaza-Chicago Metro on September 23, 2006 where they will award their Excelen-SIA Academic Scholarship to a deserving college student. The hermanas are also gathering for their annual general body meeting which will be held at the University of Illinois at Chicago - Iota Chapter.
The Sweet 16 banquet will be taking place in the upscale and luxurious Crowne Plaza located in the trendy West Loop neighborhood of Chicago. A formal event, SIA takes this time to honor its founding mothers and its members for their contributions throughout the year. This year SIA will also honor hermanas who have served or are currently serving in the military.
Most exciting will be the awarding of the Excelen-SIA Academic Scholarship. The scholarship is administrated through the organization's not-for-profit Solidaridad, Inspiracion, Amistad Community Foundation. It is designed to help young Latina/os alleviate some of the costs of their college education.
