On October 27, 2008, Rachel “Zahkiya” Munoz was named the New York State Cooperative and Experiental Education Association’s Student of the Year. Rachel is a senior at Long Island University – CW Post (Xi Chapter) majoring in Electronic Media. She is very honored and grateful for this award.

Described as a “superstar” by the Professional Experience and Career Planning office (PEP), Rachel epitomizes what can be achieved through determination and a strong work ethic.  In an industry that is just beginning to embrace the Latina culture as part of the mainstream, Rachel had her doubts.  However, over the last few years Rachel has been given the opportunity to work with such companies as Columbia Records, MTV, Sony and RCR Productions and Advertising, Inc. “My internships...confirm(ed) that the broadcasting field is for me,” Rachel says. She adds that what she gets to experience in the field cannot be equally conveyed in a classroom.
